Coder I - Physician 2/21/2012

National Jewish Health has an opportunity to ensure accurate coding and billing of inpatient and outpatient professional services provided to patients working from the appropriate documentation in the medical record.  Classification systems include CPT and ICD-9-CM as well as other specialty systems as required by diagnostic category.  All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and National Jewish organizational/institutional coding guidelines.

 Knowledge and Skills

Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work well both independently and as a team member. Strong attention to detail and basic computer skills required.  Experience with computerized patient accounting systems.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent, required.  Associate degree in Health Information Technology, Medical, or Business field preferred. 

Certification and Licensure

A minimum of one (1) of the following certifications is required: CPC, CPC-H, CCS, or CCS-P.  CPC or CCS-P is preferred.

Work Experience

A minimum of one (1) year physician coding experience, preferably in a specialty practice required.- or - Any equivalent combination of Education and/or Experience

We are seeking a Certified Coder for our Health Record Information Services department.  The qualified candidate will possess certification from one of the following organizations:  AHIMA, AAPC (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H); one to three years experience in acute care surgery and inpatient coding; knowledge of the application of coding regulations; excellent computer skills, 10 key by touch, filing and typing proficiency and familiarity with CPT-4 and ICD-9 coding.

CODING HUB MANAGER – DENVER or PUEBLO (Job# 46852): Manages physician professional coding/ charging for ambulatory and inpatient settings; reviews, codes and charges to ensure accurate reimbursement and oversees the activities of the Manages CHPG’s Coding Hub team(s). Also develops/maintains key relationships with physicians, clinic staff, and CHPG leaders by providing coding and charging expertise. Will work to assess and refine operations/procedures and develop/implement/monitor policies, procedures and systems for accurate and timely coding and reimbursement and stay current and communicate regulatory coding and charge capture changes in a timely manner. Requires 5 years of professional coding and reimbursement experience specific to physician practices including CPT-4, ICD-9, HCPCS, 1500 and 2 years in a supervisory role.
